Piedmont
Braida, founded by Giacomo Bologna and now guided by the Bologna family, stands as one of Piedmont’s most influential estates, credited with redefining Barbera’s potential for depth, structure, and longevity. Barbera is said to have originated in the Asti subregion. Based in Rocchetta Tanaro, Braida’s work transformed Barbera d’Asti from a simple local wine into a serious, age-worthy expression rooted in site and thoughtful élevage.
“Bricco dell’Uccellone” is sourced from a single hillside vineyard planted to old-vine Barbera, where clay-rich soils and warm exposure provide natural concentration. Fermentation is followed by extended aging in French oak barriques, a practice that was revolutionary at the time of the wine’s debut and remains central to its identity. This élevage brings structure, polish, and integration while allowing Barbera’s natural acidity to keep the wine balanced and energetic. The 2020 vintage delivers the wine’s hallmark profile: deep, dark fruit, lifted freshness, and a broad, structured frame built for both immediate impact and long-term development.
At the table, it shines with braised meats, osso buco, beef ragù, and game, while its acidity also makes it an excellent match for rich pasta dishes, aged cheeses, and classic Piedmontese cuisine.
